Vacation @ Ticino

We're currently enjoying a short vacation in Ticino, the southern part of Switzerland. Until yesterday the weather was good-great and we made some 1-day-trips around the region. We're staying at the house of my parents in Vairano, a small village close to the Lago Maggiore.

Mogno and Fusio

Last time down here we visited the Monte Tamaro where one special church is located. The other church that Mario Botta built in this region is located at Mogno. This time we visited the one in Mogno. It took a while to get to this little village located far away of our home - but it was definitively worth it!

Nice little chapel and a nice surrounding with high mountains. After visiting the church we went on to Fusio and even further to visit the reservoir (a lake). The lake itself is not that impressive - but the wall is! And we enjoyed our raspberry-roll-cake we bought the day before :-)

Castles in Bellinzona

Visited one of the three castles of Bellinzona which was a very great discovery: A cool old building with a huge "garden" from which you have a great view about the city of Bellinzona (the capital of the canton Ticino) and the valley.

Lago Ritom

Located in Piotta we found a funicular railway that is one of the steepest in the world (with a max. ascent of 87%).

After a few minutes we were on "top" of the hill. There is a road that leads to the Lake Ritom that is also a reservoir.

We found a nice sunny spot directly at the lake for lunch. On the way back to the cable car we were accompanied by whole class of pupils and their teachers that came back from a hike. Damn were they loud and disturbing...
