Jean-Luc Picard's Style of Leaderhip
Thomas Shimana writes about Jean-Luc Picard and his Style of Leadership (sorry, in German only).
In short it's about how leaders communicate with their fellows regarding a decision that has to be taken. Thomas decides between three styles of leadership:
- too democratic
Every team member is asked and everyone joins the discussion - much talking, no real decision - dictatorial
Maybe the team leader asks his fellows, but the decision is already made (and thus the input of the team is not regarded at all) - Jean-Luc Picard's style of Leadership
That's the mix inbetween the two extremes above: Every specialist in the team is asked for his professional opinion on a certain topic. Each of them responds with a short, clear answer. The final decision is then done by the team leader, but based on the input of his crew.
I think that's a nice visualization of something that's hard to see and to explain. I really like this way of leadership - even if I don't know Jean-Luc Picard that well...
