MacBook: My first experiences

Written byBy: Mario Rimann.

Since the 20th of December, I have my own MacBook. My new notebook had it's first real job now between Christmas and the end of the year and I'd like to give a short report on my first experiences:

  • It's small, much smaller than the Lenovo T61 I have at work. It's great to carry along all the time.
  • It get's hot - that's not very cool, but I can live with it, especially because
  • It's quiet! Very quiet!
  • The display is smaller than the one on the T61 - of course. But hey, for on the road 1280x800 pixels is enough.

So far about the hardware. Now to the software:

  • MacOS X is great. One of my most-liked features is the possibility to just close the lid of the notebook - open it again later and directly start to work again
  • For a Windows and Ubuntu Linux user as I was, I had some trouble to find chars on the keyboard. Especially
    • @-sign
    • Alt/Ctrl/Apple-Keys
    • \ (Backslash)
  • Thunderbird with my copied profile had some troubles with the settings for the fonts to use while reading or editing emails.
  • I started loving small tools like iGTD and Quicksilver

I'm still looking for cool tools for my Mac - so if you want to recommend something, just use the comment form.
