My first contact with Wordpress

At tilllate.com we have a techblog where several people from the IT team write about technical stuff.

Silvan, our CTO, always tries to motivate us to write articles (so he doesn't need to write everything by himself). And today I did it for the first time: I wrote an article on wordpress :-)

It's a short article about yesterday's work in the data center when Stefan and I installed some new hardware for our corporate network.

Next to write for a public audience that doesn't know the project behind the pictures, it was also interresting for me as a TYPO3 user, to see wordpress from the inside. Some things I saw when I blogged with wordpress:

  • wordpress gives me a huge editor window, that's great
  • linking text to external URLs is pretty simple and short, that's great
  • uploading pictures is almost the same as with TYPO3 (you have to upload the files first, then include them)
  • Adding pictures is not optimal: You can either include them with their real size, or as thumbnail. There's no option to have images resized to a certain with (that is globally configured for example)
  • Wordpress does not separate the frontend and backend as much as I appreciate it.

Let's see if Wordpress and I will get friends with time (I plan to write more stuff for the techblog when I find the time for it)...
